Q) If Mary was born with a sinful nature like everybody else, then why didn’t Jesus inherit a fallen nature from her?
A) Great question. It is true that Mary does come from the same ancestry as Adam, and therefore has inherited his sinful nature. Since Jesus was born of a human woman, he inherited all the human qualities to be fully human, but being sinful is not necessarily a part of being human, because the first humans were created by God and were sinless until they chose to let sin enter into them.
And Jesus too was created by God, in a similar way, because He was fathered by the Holy Spirit instead of by a person. So Jesus inherited His father’s traits which allowed him to not be born into a sinful nature and live a sinless life. Inheriting one parents traits dominantly is not so unusual after all either.
For example, you may have heard it said of a child “wow, they look just like their father”, or “they act just like their father”, because the children often inherit their parents qualities, and also even one parents qualities more dominantly than the other parents.
Baby Jesus inherited His father’s holiness, and his mother’s humanity.
