Q) Why is Jesus always portrayed with long hair? and the apostles?
The Bible says he could slip in a crowd and disappear. That means he must have looked like everyone else at that time, short cropped hair with ordinary looks, and Jesus followed the old test which said men should have short hair.
A)
Interesting question. I am only guessing here based on some unrelated but possibly relevant information I have received. I think historians and scholars have pieced together a likely physical representation of these men based on their knowledge of the culture and historical setting they lived in. Chances are they did not get regular haircuts, spent large amounts of time on the road making it hard to do any regular personal grooming, and the culture of the day encouraged lots of hair. Especially facial hair for the Jews.
And there is always the strong possibility that the pictures and portrayals of actors are just wrong. We really don’t know, and it is just as possible that these men looked nothing at all like any picture or image we have ever seen.
The only description of Jesus we have that we can rely on to be certain comes from the second half of the second verse of Isaiah 53 “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, and nothing in his appearance that we should desire him”
