The purpose of this devotional is to explore the basics of our salvation. Salvation means the deliverance from sin and its consequences. Please review and meditate on these scriptures and reflections to either renew your commitment to Christ, or to enter into the Kingdom of God for the first time.
How?
Romans 10:9 = If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Ephesians 2: 8-9 = For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
So no matter what you have done, either good or bad, the only requirement for salvation is a declaration and belief. We can neither earn, nor lose our salvation by our actions. It is given to us as a gift from God because we believe.
Who?
Philippians 2:5-8 – In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
John 1: 1-3 = In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Verse 14 = The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus Christ is God, and worthy of our worship
What?
1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 = For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
John 1: 12-13 = Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
Revelation 21:27 = Nothing impure will ever enter it (heaven), nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Matthew 5:14-16 = 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven
We have been saved from Hell for an eternal life with God in heaven, and for good works in His name here on earth.
When?
Romans 5:8 = But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Long before we were seeking God, He was making the way for us to be saved. Even while we were cheating on Him with our sins, He was dieing for us.
Why?
John 3:16-17 = 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Any parent knows a love for their child so deep that they would rather die than to see their child die, if that is what it took to keep your child alive. God is so holy that we in our sin can just simply not be in His presence without it killing us, so our sin will either kill us or keep us away from God for all eternity. So our Heavenly Father sent Himself, in the form of a mortal human to die, so that we did not have to. It is out of His love, that He gave of Himself, in the form of His Son, so that He could take our sins upon Himself, so that we might be saved.
I say might be saved. Because you do have a small part to play. You must receive the Lords free gift in your heart. You can start by praying a simple prayer. Pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness, and ask Him to come into your life. Commit to serving Him, and ask Him to reveal Himself to you more and more. God is waiting on the edge of His seat for you to come to Him.
What now?
If you have prayed that prayer today for the first time, you will be under more spiritual attack than you are used to. If you have not made the devils job very hard up until now, well you can bet he will be working overtime to get you to blaspheme the Lord.
To help you fight against the spiritual attack, you have lots of options. Keep in mind that the God who is in you is greater than your enemy. Find a bible preaching church in your area.
