Aren’t there contradictions in the Bible, like the different accounts of creation found in Genesis 1 and 2? |
There are no contradictions in the Bible, just areas where fallible man has misinterpreted what has been given to us by God’s Word. For instance, the apparent contradiction between Genesis’ creation accounts.
In Genesis 1 we are told that trees, birds and animals are made prior to Adam and that the birds were created from water. Then in Genesis 2, we are told that trees, animals and birds (from dirt) were made after Adam. The contradiction disappears once you understand that the Genesis 2 account is likely discussing the creation of things in the Garden of Eden so Adam could name them and select a “help meet”. A resource which explains mankind’s misinterpretations of the Bible is “The Errors in the King James Bible” by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman. Be forewarned that the writer’s disdain for those who proclaim that there are errors in the Bible comes through loud and clear. However, he takes every supposed error or contradiction one at a time and shows that it is the proclaimers that are mistaken, not God’s inspired Word. |
