- Sola Scriptura (Latin for “Scripture Alone”) – Evangelicals believe that the Bible alone is the only inspired and authoritative writing totally sufficient for our faith and claims to be the Word of God.
- 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
- Jude 3 says, “I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
- Psalm 119:18 says, “Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.”
- Psalm 138:2 says, “I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your loving kindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
- Sola Fida (Latin for “by Faith Alone”) – Evangelicals believe that the we are justified by faith alone by being “declared” righteous by God rather than being “made” righteous by God. Christ’s righteousness was laid to our account – it is a righteousness not of ourselves so that no man may boast.
- John 3:15 – 16 tells us that “whoever believes in [Jesus] should not perish but have eternal life.”
- John 5:24 says, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life.”
- In John 11:25 Jesus says, “I am the resurrection, and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”
- Sola Gratia (Latin for “by Grace Alone”) – Evangelicals believe that salvation is by grace and grace alone and is a free gift from God. Emphasis on free with no works required!
- Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not of works, so no one may boast.”
- Titus 3:5 says, “not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy he saved us”
- Romans 3:20 tells us that “no human being will be justified [declared righteous before God] in his sight by observing the law”
- Solus Christus (Latin for “Christ Alone”) – The Bible teaches us that there is “only one mediator” between God and the human race, Jesus Christ.
- 1 Timothy 2:5 – “For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Jesus Christ”
- Hebrews 4:14-16 – “since we have a great high priest…Jesus, the Son of God…For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin.”
- Hebrews 7:25 – “Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them.”
- In John 14:14 Jesus said, “If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”
- Soli Deo Gloria (Latin for “glory to God Alone”) – The Bible tells us that God alone deserves our praise because to God alone goes all the glory as believers lives are to be lived to the glory of God.
- 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
- 1 Peter 4:11 says, “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
- Revelation 1: 5 – 6 says, “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
- Ephesian 3:21 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
